What is VOIP or Voice Over Internet Protocol?

Answer:
When the Internet was first created, the Internet network
was originally created for the transmission of data back and forth between computers using Internet Protocol (IP), which is a set of standards for data transmission.  This IP can also be used for the transmission of voice communications such as phone calls, instant messaging and teleconferencing.

The acronym VoIP represents the term "Voice over Internet Protocol".   The uses for VoIP have branched out into wireless internet from there and it is now possible to get VoIP on your mobile phone with some mobile phones being used as walkie-talkies.  Development on products using VoIP continues and there are innovations in the field constantly.  VoIP has a bright future in the health field, emergency services, education, travel and many other fields as more people realize the communication power contained in VoIP.
