What is Joomla!?

Answer:
Joomla! is a content management system (CMS)
which is used to publish content, both on intranets and on the Internet.  Joomla! is free and available to everyone, as it is an open source CMS.  Joomla! is used for many different types of intranets and websites, including school websites, church websites, business websites, newspaper and magazine websites, personal websites or web pages, and community portals.  The CMS lets users manage every part of their websites, including tasks such as adding pictures and images, taking reservations online, and updating content.

The name, Joomla!, comes from the word Jumla, which is Swahili for “as a whole” or “all together.”  It is designed to be easy for anyone to install, with plenty of support just in case there is difficulty.  There is a large Joomla! community made up of developers and users who are available to help other users via forums.  Professionals or those who wish to use Joomla! for more advanced tasks can use the core framework to create many different kinds of add-ons.
