What is DVD Authoring?

Answer:
DVD Authoring is defined as a process of collecting audio, video footage, menus, subtitles and many more to
encode the footage into MPEG-2 (Motion Picture Experts Group) files ready to be burned to form a playable DVD.

DVD Authoring needs a DVD Authoring Software which is designed by many companies like Sonic Solutions, Apple, Pinnacle, etc. This DVD Authoring Software must be according to the specifications laid down by the DVD Forum group in 1995. The complexity of these specifications was laid down according to the research findings of the various companies which were involved in the research.

Now-a-days, DVD Authoring software which is used widely is having built-in encoder. However if better quality or finer control over compression settings is required a separate encoders is still in demand.

Today most of the DVD Authoring applications focus on video DVDs and do not support DVD-audio authoring. The contents of a DVD after undergoing authoring process will become more attractive and appealing as new and latest features are added in this process. Such a DVD differs from a linear DVD in the aspect that after DVD authoring one can selectively play the desired sections which he/she wants to watch while in a linear DVD one has to watch from starting to the end without having any choice in the hand.

DVD Authoring thus helps to create menu driven selection which in turn adds a lot of flexibility to the presentation especially in the field of marketing, advertising, film making, in designing of student’s school projects, in highlighting important points in the resume and many more.
