What is Drupal?

Answer:
Drupal is a modular content management system (CMS)
written in PHP, a reflective programming language.  Drupal is an open source CMS, free and available to everyone.  It is a modular CMS, which means that its core, or basic layer, provides necessary features in its default configuration, allowing pluggable themes and modules to add presentation and functions.  Its system of hooks, or callbacks, make it possible to insert functions into Drupal's path of execution.

The name Drupal comes from the Dutch word druppel, meaning “drop,” as in a water drop.  The CMS was written by Dries Buytaert, originally as a bulletin board system (BBS).

Drupal's modules enable users to perform many tasks, including conducting searches, post content, revise content, vote in polls, provide RSS feeds, provide reports and statistics for administrators, generate URLs that are easy to remember, register user accounts, and manage user accounts.
