What is a relational database?

Answer:
A relational database is a database that is
organized by category.  Usually, it refers to organization of data by similar statistics, usually time, place, date, or name.

Relational databases are used for organizing records.  Inventory, personnel records, event histories, and financial records are all organized through similar and specific categories.  Those categories can be arranged by date, time, place, name, or whatever.  Relational databases are the primary type of database in use today.
