A POP email address or Post Office Protocol
allows users to access their email from a remote server using the internet. POP email can be downloaded through an Email Client such as OUtlook, or Thunderbird.  Some web based email accounts use POP including Yahoo! and Google's Gmail.  Both of these services use the Post Office Protocol to transmit email messages. All mail you receive to these accounts is stored on servers owned and maintained by those companies.


You also have a POP email account if you have an email account at a privately owned domain name.
