The WHOIS database assists persons

in obtaining information related to domain names and domain registrations. When a WHOIS query is made, the user must follow the specific terms of service when searching the database.

Results of a search will contain the technical information regarding the registered domain name. This information identifies the domain owner and the IP address of the domain. It should also include any referral information for domain name registrars. Because of deregulation, each domain registrar is able to keep their own WHOIS database.

In order to get accurate results for a WHOIS domain lookup, you must lookup the domain name in the shared domain registry, locate the registrar that has reserved the name, and visit and query that particular registrar’s database to obtain the correct information.

To prevent any unauthorized access by automated data mining programs and scripts, Image Verification Check (IVC) is utilized for all e-mail addresses on the WHOIS service.
