What is RAM?

Answer:
RAM is the acronym for random access memory
also known as short term memory.  There are different storage types for data in your computer including long term storage and short term memory (RAM).  Unlike the data in long term storage areas, your hard drive, the RAM data exists only when the computer is on.

RAM assists you when you turn on your computer or when you start applications by loading the data into the RAM where the programs are accessible for you to use.  With more RAM in your computer you can load more and larger computer programs at the same time which means with enough RAM, you could play a game, edit a document, send an instant message and listen to music all at the same time.  When it is time to upgrade or choose a new computer, you will want more RAM if you like to multi-task on your computer.
