What is a Domain Name?

Answer:
In everyday use a domain name is a basic web address.
Each computer linked to the Internet is identified by a string of numbers called an IP (Internet protocol) address. This long and random number  would be difficult for most people to remember, so user-friendly alphanumeric domain names are created and linked to one or more IP addresses.

A domain name may refer to a person's or organization's website (i.e. www.qandas.com) or a group of email addresses “hosted” by a particular server (i.e., hotmail.com or yahoo.com.) Domain names are available to anyone willing to purchase them. They can be acquired from a domain name service (DNS) if no one has already purchased a specific domain name.
