What is a Router?

Answer:
A router is an electronic device used
for computer networking. The router connects a local area network (LAN) to a wide area network (WAN) and routes the messages between the two networks.

A router manages network traffic so that data is only directed to network nodes meant to receive the data. Routing continues as data is forwarded from one machine to another until it reaches its final destination. Both switching and routing link connections and forward them; however, switching and routing are technically different items.

Routers can keep unwanted network traffic away from your network. Most routers can accommodate computers with wired or wireless connections.
